UNIX
8.0 Getting Help
UNIX systems keep an up-to-date manual on-line (on the computer itself).
You can read sections of this manual with the man command. The manual is
organized by UNIX commands, with one manual "page" given to a
command or group of commands. To use man, type man command,
and press RETURN, where command is the exact spelling of
the command you want to read about (without additional flags or any other
information).
It may be unclear which manual pages to search for: in this case, type man
-k word, where word is some key word that is
likely to be used in a brief description of the needed command (typing apropos
word is functionally identical). The system will print a list
of commands related to the word specified. The manual pages for the appropriate
command can then be read as above.
